§ 13-17. Definitions.

  • The following terms, when used in this article, shall have the meaning ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Administrator means the city administrator or an individual designated as fair housing administrator by the city administrator.

    Discriminatory housing practice means an act that is unlawful under sections 13-19 through 13-22 of this article.

    Dwelling means any building, structure or portion thereof which is occupied as, or designed and intended for occupancy as, a residence by one (1) or more families, and any vacant land which is offered for sale or lease for the construction or location thereon of any such building, structure or portion thereof.

    Family includes a single individual.

    Person includes one (1) or more individuals, corporations, partnerships, associations, labor organizations, legal representatives, mutual companies, joint stock companies, trusts, unincorporated organizations, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy, receivers, fiduciaries, and any other organization or entity of whatever character.

    To rent includes to lease, to sublease, to let and otherwise to grant for a consideration the right to occupy premises not owned by the occupant.
