§ 2-66. Office to be appointive; term; vacancy; oath; duties generally.

  • The office of city secretary shall be an appointive office, to be appointed for a term of two (2) years in April of odd numbered years, or as soon thereafter as practicable, to be confirmed by the city council. Any vacancy in the office of city secretary shall be filled in like manner for the remainder of the unexpired term. The city secretary so appointed shall take and subscribe to the official oath of office as provided in article XVI, section 1, of the state constitution for appointed officers. The city secretary shall perform all of the duties prescribed in article 1000, Revised Civil Statutes, as amended; duties prescribed in the state election code; and duties prescribed in other statutes of the state. The city secretary shall also perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the city council.
