§ 7-1. Definitions.

  • For the purpose of this chapter, certain words, phrases, and terms are herewith defined:

    Accessible in an attic shall mean that a distance of not less than thirty (30) inches shall exist from the top of the ceiling joists to the bottom of the roof joists or rafters at the highest point.

    Board shall mean a quorum of the board of electrical examiners.

    Building shall mean any building or structure including a residence.

    Commercial shall mean anything other than residential.

    Electrical inspector shall mean the duly appointed electrical inspector of the city and all duly appointed assistant electrical inspectors.

    Fixtures shall mean a unit which supports a means of illumination.

    Holiday shall mean a holiday which is established by the personnel rules of the city.

    Homeowner shall mean a person owning and living in, or will live in if the building is under construction, a single unit dwelling.

    Installation shall include all electrical work of any nature performed on, or in, a consumer's premises.

    Journeyman electrician shall mean one skilled and experienced in the physical labor involved in electrical installations, and who does, or holds himself out as intending to do, electrical installations under the employment and supervision of a master electrician.

    Maintenance electrician shall mean one who is employed by one (1) employer to maintain and to repair existing electrical installations in a designated building or building under one (1) ownership and who does not otherwise engage himself as either a master, journeyman, or apprentice electrician.

    Master electrician shall mean a person who, himself being highly skilled in methods and practices of electrical installations, propose to do installations and to enter into agreements or contracts for such installations.

    Opening shall mean the location where a ceiling light, a bracket light, a wall light, a porch light or a flood light is to be mounted; also, it shall mean a convenience outlet and a switch.

    Person shall include a master electrician, a journeyman electrician, an apprentice electrician, a maintenance electrician, a firm, a partnership, a corporation, any other type of organization, any individual and the plural of any or all of these as well as the singular.

    Secretary shall mean the secretary of the board of electrical examiners, the duly appointed electrical inspector, or a duly appointed assistant electrical inspector who has been specifically appointed by the electrical inspector to serve in his absence.
