§ 5-19. Building inspector.

  • (a)

    Appointment; salary; office and assistants, etc. There shall be appointed by the city council a building inspector. He shall receive such salary as may be determined from time to time by the city council. He shall be furnished such office equipment, space, assistants, and transportation as are needed to carry out the functions of his office.

    (b)

    Duties. It shall be the duty of the building inspector or his representative to issue all permits for construction, to inspect and pass upon all construction of any character already in use or being constructed. He shall keep a record of all permits issued, a floor plan and elevation of each construction installation made showing the location and kind of each construction. The building inspector shall also investigate all alleged violations of building ordinances reported to him, and file complaints against all whom he may find are guilty of such violations; and he shall perform such other service and duties as may be required by this article and by the city council. No construction shall be completed until such construction shall have been inspected and approved by the building inspector. The building inspector shall be notified when the work is ready for inspection. It shall be his duty to make inspections within twenty-four (24) hours after inspection has been called for if practicable, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
