§ 5-57. Plumbing inspector.
(a)
Appointment; salary; office and assistants. There shall be appointed by the city council a plumbing inspector. He shall be a plumbing inspector licensed by the state. He shall receive such salary as may be determined from time to time by the city council. He shall be furnished such office equipment, space, assistants, and transportation as are needed to carry out the functions of his office.
(b)
It shall be the duty of the plumbing inspector or his representative to issue all permits for plumbing work, to inspect and pass upon all plumbing of any character already in use or being constructed. He shall keep a record of all permits issued, a floor plan and elevation of each plumbing installation made showing the location and kind of each fixture and grade of the drains, stacks and vents. The plumbing inspector shall also investigate all alleged violations of plumbing ordinances reported to him, and file complaints against all whom he may find are guilty of such violations; and shall perform such other service and duties as may be required by this article and by the city council. No plumbing work or house drain, house sewer, waterworks pipe or connection, laid on public or private property shall be covered or concealed until such plumbing work, house drain, house sewer, waterworks pipe or connection shall have been inspected and approved by the plumbing inspector. The plumbing inspector shall be notified when the work is ready for inspection. It shall be his duty to make inspections within twenty-four (24) hours after inspection has been called for if practicable, exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
